Germany believes that The Hague could investigate Putin’s crimes
The purposeful destruction of Ukraine's infrastructure by Russia may lead to investigations against Russian President Vladimir Putin
It is reported by Tagesschau referring to the statement of the German Federal Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann.
"The International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Netherlands, could investigate Putin for crimes against humanity," the politician said. “This is not a hypothetical case," he added.
Buschmann claims depriving the population of electricity and heating in winter by destroying civilian infrastructure can be considered a crime against humanity.
The minister added that Putin’s television addresses could indicate that he is directly responsible. He explains that destroying Ukraine is a desirable tactic. On the other hand, the German Prosecutor General cannot investigate the Russian president because he is the head of state and therefore has immunity.
