German lawmakers from coalition, support increase in military aid for Ukraine - Spiegel
Members of the German parliament, the Bundestag, have backed expanded military aid to Ukraine, even if it temporarily weakens the military potential of the Bundeswehr.
This is stated in a joint article by three members of the German parliament - Christian Klink from the Social Democratic Party, Sarah Nanni from the Greens, and Alexander Müller from the Free Democratic Party, Der Spiegel reports.
"We consider it our duty to support Kyiv's struggle for survival, because Ukraine also protects our interests and values", the publication stated.
As the deputies note, after almost half a year of war, the situation indicates that the war will most likely continue for a long time, as the Russian Federation is unlikely to weaken its aggressiveness. Therefore, the members of the Bundestag consider it necessary to organize additional support for Ukraine.
"The goal is a long-term plan to continue the supply of weapons systems to Ukraine, including training, ammunition, and technical support, not just a repeated response to current challenges. This must be achieved through an approach coordinated with our partners and the military industry. New equipment for the Bundeswehr, for our allies and Ukraine, should come quickly", the authors of the publication emphasized.
The deputies emphasized that the consequences of the war in Ukraine will have their significance for Germany as well.
