Four Russian servicemen who tortured ATO participants near Izium are sentenced to 11 years in prison
Russian military kept Ukrainian defenders in a pit without water and food, now the torturers have been sentenced to 11 years in prison
This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office on December 24.
Prosecutors proved that four Russian servicemen tortured ATO participants.
It happened in early September 2022 during the occupation of Borova, Izium district.
Two PMC mercenaries and two servicemen of the 16th Detached Special Forces Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces tortured Ukrainian servicemen: they put plastic ties on their hands and bags on their heads. After that, they were abducted and kept in a pit at the recreation center. The defenders were not given food and water.
It is noted that after torture, the occupiers released the victims. The defendants pleaded guilty in court.
"With the support of the public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the court found them guilty of violating the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced them to 11 years in prison," the Prosecutor General's Office summed up.
In November it was reported that prosecutors announced suspicion to a sergeant of the 83rd Guards Air Assault Brigade of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for torturing former ATO participants in the Kyiv region.
Another mass grave of murdered civilians was discovered in Kherson region: the remains of six people were found in the yard of a house, they were tortured before being killed.
