'Russia wins war in Ukraine, influences 2024 US elections': foreign manipulations for September 5
The Center for Countering Disinformation has published a selection of anti-Ukrainian manipulations launched by the world media on September 5
According to the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation, two manipulations appeared on September 5.
Manipulation: The German-Finnish blogger Kim Dotcom wrote on his X page: “Let me guess. Russia is winning the US proxy war in Ukraine and is influencing the 2024 election by exposing the ineptitude of Biden/Harris and the waste of $250 billion on the impossibility of defeating a nuclear power? Right? Listen to Russia. Don’t vote for these fools.”
Rebuttal: Kim Dotcom makes hypothetical statements without providing evidence. The phrase "Russia is winning the US proxy war in Ukraine" is not supported by real facts or evidence, which creates a misleading impression of the war. The focus on the costs of the war portrays aid to Ukraine as a purely financial waste, without mentioning the strategic, humanitarian, and security aspects of the support. This is aimed at diminishing the importance of assistance to Ukraine in the broader international context.
Manipulation: Irish journalist Chay Bowes wrote on his X page: “Vladimir Putin addresses the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok today. The Western delusion of Russia's isolation exists only in their think tank fantasies, dozens of countries, thousands of delegates here to work with Russia.”
Rebuttal: The journalist reduces the issue of Russia's international isolation to the number of participants in one economic forum, which is an oversimplification. Participation in such events does not necessarily indicate broad international support or the complete removal of isolation. This is aimed at creating a misleading impression that Russia is not isolated in the international arena.
