Crimean bridge operates outside law, Russia uses it for military purposes – Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said that Russia is using the Crimean Bridge to continue the war in Ukraine – plus, it was built illegally
He said this in a comment to journalists at the UN headquarters, Ukrinform reports.
Kuleba noted that "not every bridge is civilian by definition." Besides, the Crimean bridge was built illegally.
"This bridge was built illegally and operates outside the law. It is mainly used for military purposes," said Kuleba.
The Foreign Affairs Minister added that Russia uses the Crimean Bridge primarily to support its army in occupied Crimea and the southern region, where they store ammunition, fuel, and military equipment necessary for their ongoing war against Ukraine.
Kuleba emphasized that he only knows what he “heard from the news headlines” about the bridge, as he doesn't have access to confidential information during his trip.
It's important to mention that Kuleba is currently in New York for a work visit. He came to take part in a meeting of the UN Security Council and an open debate of the UN General Assembly regarding the situation in Ukraine.
The Crimean bridge attack
On July 17, in the morning, there were explosions on the Crimean bridge. Russian occupation authorities declared it an "emergency event" and blamed the Ukrainian military for the attack. Some parts of the road surface were damaged, and two deaths were reported.
The Security Service of Ukraine stated that all the details about the explosion on the Crimean bridge will be revealed after Ukraine wins the war against Russia.
Because of this event, Vladimir Putin called for an urgent meeting and promised that Russia would respond to the explosion on the Crimean bridge.
Russian media claims that the Defense Forces of Ukraine supposedly targeted the "land route" from Russia to Crimea more than 20 times in a month.
In contrast, Maxar Technologies released satellite images of the Crimean bridge after the night explosion on July 17.
