US Congressmen meet with Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies’ chiefs
On August 13, Oleksandr Klymenko, head of Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, and Semen Kryvonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, met with members of the US Congress
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office's press service reported the information.
During the meeting, American partners were briefed on the progress made by Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies over the past two years.
In particular, they discussed the challenges that slow down the pace of eradicating corruption and the steps to be taken to strengthen the independence of the anti-corruption agencies.
The partners noted that the use of international assistance provided to Ukraine requires absolute transparency, and that future investments in the country's recovery should be guaranteed by the protection of capable law enforcement agencies.
At the same time, the parties agreed that Russia's narrative of Ukraine as the most corrupt country in the world is a tool to stop Western partners from supporting Ukraine.
"The public exposure of corruption schemes and those involved in them testifies to persistent efforts to overcome corruption, demonstrates the effectiveness of anti-corruption law enforcement mechanisms aimed at improving the rule of law in Ukraine," the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office emphasized.
- On August 12, a bipartisan delegation from the United States - Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal - arrived in Kyiv. They called on their administration to lift restrictions on Ukrainian military strikes on Russian territory.
