Coal is accumulated twice as much as needed, less gas is withdrawn than injected - PM Shmyhal
Ukraine has accumulated enough coal and gas for the heating season that is expected to be the most challenging in the country’s history
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at the cabinet meeting on November 8.
“Almost 60% of all objects in the country are already connected to heat supply. The southern regions are connected more slowly, but this process has also started there. In five regions, the level of connection to heat supply is more than 85%, and in two regions it has already reached 100%,” he said regarding the heating situation in Ukraine.
According to Shmyhal, twice as much coal has been accumulated in Ukraine than is needed for the heating season.
“We have 1.5 million tons of coal in the warehouses of thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants, which is almost twice as much as the necessary guaranteed reserves. Therefore, enough resources have been accumulated, and the key challenge remains precisely the intentional damage to the energy infrastructure by Russia,” the prime minister emphasized.
As for gas, it is also injected more than withdrawn.
“A relatively mild autumn and the saving of energy resources still allows us to pump more gas than we have withdrawn from gas storages. As of today, we have 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas in our reserves,” Shmyhal summarized.
