"China threatens not only us, but also the entire region" - Taiwan's Foreign Minister Wu
Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu believes that China threatens not only to invade the island, but also to expand throughout the region
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“Now in the world we see such a growing trend: democracy - on the one hand, authoritarianism - on the other. Authoritarian countries are becoming more aggressive than before. They are combining their efforts for cooperation. We can see this by the example of Russia and China. The Russians resorted to specific actions in order to go to war against the Ukrainian people. And we also witnessed atrocities and cruelty against innocent people. On this side of the world, China is becoming very aggressive, not only in relation to Taiwan, but in the entire region. In particular, regarding East China and South China Seas. The Chinese have penetrated as far as the First Island Chain, deep into the Pacific Ocean, during recent military exercises,” Wu explained.
Joseph Wu considers China more dangerous than Russia.
“In June, China signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, which is very far from China, but very close to Australia and New Zealand. But Chinese authoritarianism has not only set its eyes on this part of the world, it is also looking at the Indian Ocean region. The Chinese are speaking with a broad initiative to establish its naval ports along the Indian Ocean. This shows China's ambitions to expand globally. In our view, China with its power may be more dangerous than Russia. It has the ability to project its philosophy and authoritarianism, to change the rules of the basic international order. Now we see that China and Russia are cooperating with each other. This is a very dangerous trend. I think that in response, democracies should cooperate to prevent the further spread of authoritarianism,” he added.
