China shocked by Russia's military performance - US expert Fried
Former US State Department sanctions coordinator Daniel Fried believes that China is not going to support Russia.
He said this on Espreso TV.
“The Chinese are shocked by the way Russia has shown itself militarily. The Chinese are shocked by the Russian Federation's strategic miscalculations, by its clumsiness in dealing with something that Putin can neither control nor stop. Russia has always been China's junior partner, at least in the last few years. Now it is quite obvious that Russia is an aggressive and incompetent junior partner. I doubt that the Chinese will take risks for Putin,” Fried noted.
According to the expert, China does not want to intensify its confrontation with the United States. At most, they saw that the West was not as weak as they had imagined, and that they were not as strong as they had hoped.
“This should alarm any serious strategist in the Kremlin. China is not going to be supported by Russia, sinking more and more into the quagmire of Putin's adventures. I think the Chinese will not risk violating American sanctions, even oil price restrictions. Putin's position is not strong. Putin has assumed serious miscalculations, and his current position is much weaker than last year,” Fried emphasized.
