Biden puts focus on Ukraine military aid during plant visit
On May 3, US President Joe Biden paid a visit to the Lockheed Martin military production facility in Alabama
Defense News reports the story.
The US President's visit to the Lockheed Martin plant is designed in part to draw the US general public’s attention to the role of the US defense industry in weapons production, and its support for the Ukrainian military in their war against Russian aggression.
Lockheed Martin has produced more than 50,000 Javelin missiles in the past 20 years, with 13,000 of them produced in 2021. Currently, industrial facilities can produce up to 2,100 Javelins per year. But the US administration is looking for ways to further increase production. Since the beginning of the full-scale war on February 24, the US has sent more than 5,500 Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine.
During the visit, Biden urged Congress to approve the Ukraine assistance package, worth USD 33 billion, which includes over USD 20 billion in military aid.
