ATACMS supply to Ukraine can protect its infrastructure from Russian attacks
ATACMS missiles will allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike Russian firepower that it uses to target Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Alexander Vershbow, former Deputy Secretary General of NATO, ex-US Ambassador to Russia, shared his opinion in a comment for Ukrinform.
"I think now is the time for the United States to review some decisions on the provision of certain types of weapons to Ukraine which could limit Russia's ability to use territories close to the contact line, including Crimea, to strike infrastructure without fear of retaliation," said Vershbow.
His statement concerns primarily ATACMS long-range ballistic missiles capable of striking Russian fire equipment, used to attack Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
According to Vershbow, Western countries should pressure Russia and help Ukraine keep the initiative in order to prevent the Russian army from regaining its military potential.
"Maintaining military pressure [on Russia] with victory as a clear goal cannot be something vague. The goal must be the victory of Ukraine," Vershbow told Ukrinform.
