Norway to provide Ukraine with spare parts for Sea King helicopters
On Tuesday, July 9, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram announced the supply of spare parts for Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
This is stated on the website of the Norwegian government.
"As co-chair of the Maritime Capability Coalition, Norway considers it important to ensure that Ukraine is able to build its Coast Guard and increase its maritime capabilities as rapidly as possible," Gram emphasized.
According to him, the Sea King is an outdated type of helicopter that is difficult to obtain spare parts for. These helicopters were in service with the Norwegian Armed Forces from 1973 to 2023, and now they have been replaced by the SAR Queen.
Previously, Sea King helicopters were provided to Ukraine by Germany and the United Kingdom (six and three, respectively) and are an important element of maritime defense. The spare parts provided by Norway will ensure the smooth operation of these helicopters and increase their effectiveness, providing Ukraine with additional capabilities to control and protect its maritime space.
"The Black Sea and the maritime domain in general are of strategic importance to Ukraine," said Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. "I am pleased that spare parts from our discarded Sea Kings can help make a difference for Ukraine, and facilitate the efforts to establish the Ukrainian Coast Guard."
- On June 12, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country would provide €240 million for Ukraine's air defense.
