Ukraine urges IAEA to ramp up efforts to prevent attacks on nuclear facilities
Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy informed the IAEA about Russia’s overnight attack on the Chornobyl NPP’s 4th unit shelter and urged stronger international efforts
The Ministry of Energy reported the information on its website.
The Ministry recalled that as a result of a Russian drone strike, the shelter arch sustained significant damage. They emphasized that Russian attacks on critically important energy infrastructure, especially nuclear facilities, are "absolutely unacceptable."
The Ministry of Energy added that any violation of the integrity of protective barriers, power supply systems, or monitoring equipment could have serious consequences not only for Ukraine but for the entire region.
"Ukraine calls for the urgent activation of global efforts in response to Russia's unprecedented act of nuclear terrorism. The attack on the shelter arch of the 4th reactor at Chornobyl poses a threat to the entire continent," emphasized Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
- On February 14, a Russian strike drone with a fragmentation warhead hit the shelter of the destroyed 4th reactor unit at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
