The question of ending Russia's war in Ukraine is unlikely to be directly resolved at the Munich Conference, which started on February 14 in Germany

Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko stated this, according to Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko.

"I don't think this issue (the end of Russia's war in Ukraine – ed.) will be resolved directly at the Munich conference. Because what Trump proposes is a very long path. There needs to be consultations, primarily with the president of Ukraine, with European partners. Perhaps there will be a meeting in Saudi Arabia, as Trump suggests, with Putin. This is possible," said Merezhko.

Therefore, in his view, at the Munich conference, there will be contacts and meetings with U.S. representatives, primarily with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, Secretary of State Mark Rubio, or someone else from Trump's team.

"In my opinion, this is most likely where it will end, but no fundamental decisions will be made there," the MP concluded.

Munich Security Conference 2025: key topics

The 61st Munich Security Conference began on February 14, 2025, in Germany, lasting three days, with 60 heads of state and government participating. This is the world’s largest international conference where countries discuss global security issues. The main theme of this year’s meeting is Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Ukraine’s delegation will be led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Other key members include the Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisa.

The U.S. delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance, with President Trump not in attendance. The delegation will also include Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.

On February 14, during the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Trump’s push for negotiations regarding the war.

President Donald Trump announced that U.S. and Russian officials will meet soon in Saudi Arabia for talks on the war, with Ukraine also being a part of the discussions.

The plane carrying Rubio to Germany had to make an emergency landing due to a technical malfunction. The U.S. Secretary of State plans to fly to Munich on a different aircraft.
