Ukraine reaffirms NATO membership goal in talks with Secretary General
Before the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting, Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov had a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, emphasizing that Ukraine is not abandoning its NATO membership path
The Ukrainian Defense Minister reported this on Facebook.
"Ukraine does not abandon its strategic course – we see our future in NATO. This is our security priority, and our army is already an important element of Euro-Atlantic security," emphasized Umerov.
He also informed the Secretary General about the development of Ukraine’s defense industry and plans to strengthen its military capabilities.
"Ukraine strengthens its contribution to the fight against Russian aggression every year, but the support of allies remains critically important," noted the Ukrainian Minister of Defense.
Additionally, during the meeting, the sides discussed the need to enhance NATO’s defense capabilities and those of European countries.
"Security challenges are only growing – we must respond to them in a consolidated and proactive manner," added Umerov.
- Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Ukraine was never promised NATO membership as a result of peace agreements.
