We seek lasting peace: U.S. VP Vance after meeting Zelenskyy as Ukrainian president ready for “real peace”
At the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. The American side emphasized that it seeks to achieve lasting peace rather than a conflict in Europe that could reignite in a few years
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.
After the meeting with the Ukrainian president, Vance stated that the U.S. wants to end the war.
He said that they wanted the war to end and the killings to stop, but they also wanted to achieve lasting peace, not just a conflict in Europe in a few years.
At the same time, the vice president added that a number of "good dialogues" took place on how to achieve lasting peace together. According to him, more of these discussions will take place in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Zelenskyy also commented on the conversation, emphasizing that Kyiv needs real security guarantees, as reported by Suspilne.
"We had a good conversation today, this is our first meeting, but I am sure it will not be the last. We really need to talk more, work more, and prepare a plan to stop Putin and end the war. We want peace very much, but we need real security guarantees, and we will continue our meetings and our work," he stated.
Later on Telegram, Zelenskyy added that he was grateful to Vance and his entire team for the discussion, which also included Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Representative General Keith Kellogg.
"Our teams will continue working on the document. We discussed many key issues and look forward to General Kellogg’s visit to Ukraine for further consultations and a deeper assessment of the situation on the ground. We are ready to move as quickly as possible toward real and guaranteed peace. We deeply appreciate President Trump’s determination, which can help stop the war and provide Ukraine with justice and security guarantees," he concluded.
At 6:44 p.m., it became known that the meeting between Zelenskyy and Vance had begun, as reported by Espreso journalist Marianna Prysiazhniuk from the scene.
