Crucial moments await Ukraine at NATO Summit - diplomat Voitko
Diplomat and international expert Yaroslav Voitko stated what Ukraine can expect from the upcoming NATO summit
He shared his opinion on Espreso TV.
”The most significant developments for Ukraine will occur in July at the NATO summit, which will mark the alliance's 75th anniversary. While it’s clear that Ukraine will not be invited to join NATO at this time, alternative solutions will be explored. There are still several weeks for Western leaders, including Biden, Scholz, and other NATO members like Hungary, to develop a position that accommodates both Ukraine and its allies. However, progress must be made,” Voitko explained.
He also discussed the possibility of a compromise that balances Ukraine's desire to join NATO with providing security guarantees that would prevent further Russian aggression.
“Several agreements on Western assistance to Ukraine have already been signed. One agreement with the United States is still being finalized, and it's unclear when it will be signed - possibly in the next two weeks or at the NATO summit in July. This agreement isn't a substitute for Ukraine's full NATO membership, which is the only way to ensure adequate security. However, not all Western partners are ready for this yet.
Ukraine might be given documents outlining steps to prepare for future membership. Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready to join NATO today due to their invaluable experience fighting Russia, experience no other army in the world has. The Ukrainian Armed Forces and NATO troops have already achieved interoperability,” Voitko concluded.

During this summer's annual summit in Washington, NATO plans to offer Ukraine a security package to serve as a "bridge" to membership.
