U.S. Senate supports amendment that allows confiscating Russian frozen assets in favor of Ukraine
On December 22, the U.S. Senate voted to include an amendment to the draft budget that will allow the frozen assets confiscation of Russian oligarchs in favor of Ukraine
This was announced on Twitter by the House of Representatives member Tom Malinowski.
He claims the bill was adopted as an amendment to a large-scale bill on financing the US federal government. The House of Representatives is to vote for it later on Thursday, December 22.
Republican Lindsey Graham introduced the amendment in the Senate, which provides for the confiscation and sale of Russian oligarchs’ assets for their transfer to Ukraine in the form of humanitarian and military aid.
"I’m very pleased the Senate unanimously adopted my amendment to allow assets seized from sanctioned Russian oligarchs and entities supporting Putin to be used to the benefit of the Ukrainian people," Lindsey Graham wrote.
He added that this amendment is "a win-win for the people of Ukraine and the American taxpayers."
