Ukrainian success at the Oscars
About the Oscars again. I understand the indignation of many Ukrainians over the fact that the winner in the documentary category was the film Navalny
But I must point out that this is not a Russian movie, but an American one, and it is anti-Putin. Yes, its protagonist once spoke out with imperial thoughts. Now he is in prison. Obviously, it would be better if a movie about Ukrainians won. It would have been fair. We have a lot of work to do.
But I want to write not about disappointment, but about success. Ukrainian success.
The shortlist did not include any Russian films. Instead, the Ukrainian film House of Splinters, made with the participation of Denmark, Sweden and Finland, was nominated. The Ukrainian producer Victoria Khomenko and the film's co-author Azad Safarov did a fantastic job and achieved real success. It became one of the five best films at the Oscars in this nomination and was creatively as good as the American story about a Russian oppositionist. We should thank the Ukrainian filmmakers for their excellent work.
