Ukrainian army's local successes will create conditions for strategic victory in east or south - General Romanenko
Retired Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko says that appropriate weather conditions and offensive weapons are needed for successful counterattacks
General Romanenko commented on military operations during the winter and the appropriate conditions for the Ukrainian army's success on Espreso TV.
“Of course, winter is a very important time. If the Ukrainian Defense Forces additionally conduct several successful operations with an operational level victory, such as those in the Kharkiv and Kherson directions, then the totality of these victories can create conditions to liberate the east or the south, or prerequisites for the enemy to leave Crimea. And there is such a probability,” the retired lieutenant general noted.
Ihor Romanenko noted that the situation will largely depend on how quickly and massively heavy weapons, which could be used to achieve victory at these levels, will be supplied.
“In the next ten days or several weeks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff will decide where the main course of action will be. It must be clearly understood that not only weather conditions are needed to carry out the counteroffensive, but also there must be offensive weapons, which include armored fighting vehicles, tanks on land, and aircraft in the air. This is exactly the equipment our allies are reluctant to give to Ukraine, primarily the US military and political leadership, have not made such a decision yet,” Romanenko emphasized.
