Ukraine could reopen Lviv airport, if it had F-16s on patrol – Kuleba
Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said that sufficient air defence, including F-16 aircraft, would allow Ukraine to reopen Lviv airport
He said this on the air of the 1+1 TV channel, commenting on the forecast of the European Monitoring Agency on the possible restriction of flights over Ukraine until 2029, Espreso reports.
"We would all like to see at least one airport working, but this is a matter of safety and whether airlines will fly. We are working on it, we want it to happen as soon as possible. But it is clear that the European Commission was too conservative in its position. By the way, if we had F-16s and they patrolled the Ukrainian sky, Lviv airport could be opened without any worries at all. It's all about delays in decision-making," Kuleba said.
The minister also recalled the story of Patriot systems, which Ukraine asked for at the beginning of the full-scale war and received a year later.
"If we had received it immediately, there would have been much less damage to cities and energy facilities. The same story is repeated with the F-16. Of course, I want to come and say, 'Why are you delaying, you're going to do it anyway. And I do say that, to be honest. But they have their own reasoning, their own logic and their own analysis," the Ukraine’s Foreign Minister said.
