Ukraine and EU boost winter electricity import capacity
Starting December 1, the maximum capacity for importing electricity from EU countries will rise to 2.1 GW, up from 1.7 GW. This increase will strengthen Ukraine's energy stability
Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported this development.
"From December 1, we’re increasing the maximum capacity for electricity imports from EU countries, moving from 1.7 GW to 2.1 GW. This upgrade will bolster the Ukrainian energy system amidst Russian attacks on our infrastructure. My gratitude goes to our European partners, especially European Commissioner Kadri Simson, for their firm stance and proactive support ahead of winter," said Minister Herman Halushchenko.
The Ministry noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had discussed the need for enhanced electricity import options with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen back in September.
Additionally, Ukraine will have a guaranteed 250 MW of transfer capacity from the EU as emergency aid, according to the Ministry.
