"This is Ukraine's fight": Pentagon comments on Chongar Bridge attack
The Pentagon has denied direct involvement in the preparation of the attack on the Chongar Bridge, which connects Kherson region and Crimea. The US called it Ukraine's struggle
US Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder made the statement at a briefing.
According to him, all questions regarding the frontline should be directed to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Commenting directly on the attack on the Chongar Bridge, Ryder said that Ukraine is fighting the occupying forces, and international partners are only helping it defend itself.
"This is Ukraine's fight. They are planning and executing that fight. Our focus is on working with them and our allies and our partners to ensure that they have the combat capabilities they need to defend their country and take back sovereign territory," he said.
Asked whether the United States helped choose the target for the strike, the Pentagon spokesman said, "They (the Ukrainians - ed.) are picking the targets and they're executing this mission."
The strike on the Chongar Bridge
On June 22, Russia accused Ukraine of striking the Chongar Bridge, which connects Kherson region and Crimea.
Commenting on the attack, a representative of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence, Andriy Yusov, said that it was a systematic work of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and guerrillas who are waiting for the return of the Ukrainian government to Crimea.
Gauleiter Saldo threatened to retaliate. "The coordinates of the bridges in Odesa region, in the Moldovan Giurgiulești, which were part of Ukraine but transferred by the Yushchenko regime back in the day. All these coordinates are known, so there will be a very serious response soon," the collaborator said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.
Moldova interpreted this as direct threats against the republic and summoned the head of the Russian diplomatic mission for explanations.
