The US will focus on Iran not transferring weapons to Russia, nuclear deal is not a priority
The main focus of the United States' Iran policy will now be preventing Iranian weapons supply to Russia and supporting protesters against the Ayatollah's regime, rather than negotiations on renewal of the nuclear deal
US Special Representative for Iran, Robert Malley, said this in the interview with Bloomberg.
"Iran is not interested in the deal, and we are focused on other things. Now we can make a difference by trying to contain and disrupt arms supply to Russia and by trying to support fundamental aspirations of Iranian people," he said.
In addition, Melli also noted that Iran has resumed uranium enrichment, contrary to previous restrictions, and has also significantly limited International Atomic Energy Agency's access to its facilities, which IAEA has also acknowledged.
Formally, negotiations between Iran, the USA, EU and Russia regarding nuclear agreement have not stopped, but since the end of August, parties have not met together.
"What's the point? Why should we focus on this if Iran comes back with demands that are unacceptable? We're not going to focus on nuclear deal right now, because we can't keep going back and then be cheated," the US special representative from Iran emphasized.
Instead, Melli added, the United States aims to "disrupt, detain, deter and sanction" arms supply to Russia from Iran. He emphasized that supply of Iranian missiles or Tehran's assistance in creating military production facilities in Russia would be "crossing new red lines".
