Severe weather kills 10 people in Ukraine, injures 23 others
As of the morning of Tuesday, November 28, 10 people died as a result of snowfall and strong winds in Ukraine, and 23 others were injured, including children. Over 400 settlements remain without power supply, and traffic is blocked on 8 highways
This was reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko.
"As a result of severe weather conditions, 10 people died in Odesa, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions. 23 people were injured, including 2 children," he said.
He noted that in the Odesa region alone, 5 people died and 15 others were injured due to the bad weather.
The SES units in the region were involved 254 times: they towed 849 vehicles, including 24 buses and 17 emergency vehicles, and provided assistance to 2,498 people, including 162 children.
Two people were killed and two others injured in the Mykolaiv region. Rescuers responded to calls 66 times and towed 144 vehicles. Traffic remains difficult on some road sections.
The Interior Minister also said that 8 roads in Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad regions remain closed to traffic. Also, 411 settlements in 11 regions have no power supply. A total of 1,530 vehicles have been towed from the snowdrifts.
- On Sunday, November 26, Odesa city and the region were covered with snow, and ice formed on the roads. Due to the weather, traffic was blocked on three highways in the region. The bad weather caused a number of accidents that resulted in the first casualties, and schools were switched to distance learning.
