Scandalous NYT ‘investigation’ is tailored to undermine Ukraine weapon supplies – investigative journalist
The recent New York Times article discussing the higher costs of weapons sent to Ukraine puts Ukraine's relationships with nations that prefer to keep their support private in danger
It's clear that the so-called "investigation" lacks solid proof and actual details, making it seem more like a tale written according to the FSB's instructions.
Investigative journalist Yuriy Nikolov told about this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
“The investigation by The New York Times didn't make me think of journalism. If Ukrainian reporters had written this, I would've gone public and said they made a basic, rude lie. Worst case, this might have been written under the guidance of the FSB and is against Ukraine, which is currently at war with Russia. The article from NYT doesn't have any proof that a Ukrainian private company is sending weapons to Ukraine at very high prices. Actually, the info I have shows that Ukrainian Armor company brought weapons into Ukraine much cheaper than official importers, including state-authorized defense companies,” he explained.
According to Nikolov, this article is beneficial for those who want to beat rivals in the weapons market.
"The New York Times told the Americans that Ukraine has problems getting weapons. Instead, Ukrainian Armor gets weapons from countries not officially revealing this because of internal politics. The worst part is that we might mess up relations with those countries," warns Nikolov.
As per the investigative journalist, this isn't about corruption, it's about treason. In this kind of "investigation," we need proof – if it's costly, they should give numbers and facts.
"Finding out details is impossible since everything is secret. It wouldn't shock me if Pashynskyi's name pops up in a corruption probe. He's built a certain reputation over the years, so he might be caught in a bad situation. This isn't just about Pashynskyi, it's an attack on supplying weapons to Ukraine. That's a big risk," Nikolov wraps up.
- Earlier, The New York Times reported that during Russia's invasion, Ukraine needed weapons urgently. Big NATO deliveries hadn't started, and they needed Soviet-style ammo. The company close to Pashynskyi, Ukrainian Armor, provided vital weapons supplies and became Ukraine's biggest private defense supplier, as Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Havrylov told NYT.
