March surge in civilian casualties in Ukraine: UK intelligence names reasons
The number of civilian casualties caused by Russian attacks in March increased by 20% compared to February due to intensified attacks on critical infrastructure and Russia’s use of aerial munitions
The UK Ministry of Defenсe shared the information in a report.
According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, 604 civilians were killed or injured in March 2024. This is 20% more than in the previous month.
"These deaths are attributed to missile and aerial-munitions strikes throughout Ukraine and increased bombardment at the frontlines. The report highlights the increased coordinated strikes on Ukrainian critical infrastructure with 20 destroyed or damaged sites," the British intelligence service said.
The report indicated that 57 children were killed, which is twice the number compared to the previous month. British intelligence suggests that the rise in casualties is directly linked to Russia's use of aerial munitions.
According to the UN mission, a total of 31,366 civilian casualties have been registered in Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale war, with 10,810 fatalities and 20,556 wounded.
"These figures highlight the tremendous cost of life sustained from Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine," the British Ministry of Defenсe emphasized.
