Russian forces launch 27 missile and 37 air strikes, 20 attacks from MLRS on May 16 – Ukraine’s General Staff

This is stated in the evening report of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff.

Also, the General Staff added details about the night attack on Kyiv.

"According to the updated information, the enemy fired 6 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles, 9 Kalibr cruise missiles and 10 ground-based missiles (S-400, Iskander-M), all of which were destroyed by Ukrainian defenders," the statement said.

The Russian occupiers used 2 more missiles from S-300 systems against the civilian infrastructure of Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region.

In the city of Feodosia, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russian occupation authorities are trying to transport stolen grain to their ports by loading it onto a sanctioned Syrian vessel Souria.

Ukrainian aviation launched 13 strikes on the enemy's concentration areas and 3 on their air defense systems during the day

Also, during the day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed one Iranian Shahed strike UAV and 2 reconnaissance drones.

Moreover, missile and artillery units struck 5 areas of manpower concentration, 3 electronic warfare stations, 2 enemy ammunition depots and 1 fuel and lubricant point.

The Russian enemy continues attacking in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions.

Within the last day, 44 combat engagements took place in the above-mentioned frontline areas. Bakhmut and Marinka remain at the epicentre of hostilities.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged over the last day. In particular, as a result of shelling of 3 settlements in the Kharkiv region, civilians were killed and wounded, private houses, a hospital and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, no signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were detected, and certain units of the Belarusian armed forces continue to perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine. 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions:

The Russian forces continue to maintain a military presence in the Ukrainian border areas. They fired mortar and artillery shells at a settlement in the Chernihiv region; 6 settlements in the Sumy region; and 12 settlements in the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy had unsuccessful offensives in one area in Kharkiv region and 2 areas in Luhansk region. It carried out air strikes near 5 settlements in the Kharkiv region. 12 settlements in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched offensive actions in one area of the Luhansk region. They carried out air strikes near one settlement in the Luhansk region and 3 settlements in the Donetsk region. Meanwhile 3 other settlements in the Luhansk region and 3 settlements in the Donetsk region came under artillery fire.

The Russian enemy keeps attacking in the Bakhmut direction. Heavy fighting for Bakhmut continues. In addition, during the day the enemy launched unsuccessful offensives in the direction of Ivanivske. 4 settlements in the Donetsk region came under air strikes. 8 settlements in the Donetsk region suffered from enemy shelling.

In the Avdiivka direction, the Russian forces continued to destroy the infrastructure of localities, launched air strikes on 2 settlements, and fired at 7 settlements in the Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian defence forces repelled numerous enemy attacks near the town of Marinka. The enemy launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka. At the same time, 3 settlements in the Donetsk region also came under enemy fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, 5 settlements in the Donetsk region came under Russian enemy fire.

On the night of May 16, Ukrainian air defence shot down 6 Kinzhal, 9 Kalibr and 3 ballistic missiles fired by Russians to attack Ukraine.
