Russian-backed head of 'customs' blown up in Luhansk region
In the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk region, the head of the "LPR customs" and an agent of the FSB central office, Yuriy Afanasyevskyi, was blown up during a special operation conducted by the the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
TASS reported the information.
It reported that the head of the pseudo-customs of the "LPR" was not seriously injured during the assassination attempt, but his son was hospitalized.
"His son is in the hospital, not him. But the attack was most likely directed against Afanasyevskyi," the article says.
Russian media also reported an explosion in the house of Yuriy Afanasyevskyi, but there has been no official information yet.
A number of Ukrainian media outlets, including Suspilne, citing sources in the SBU, wrote that the head of the "customs" was blown up in his own home. Afanasyevskyi received multiple shrapnel wounds to his head, neck, and abdomen and is in intensive care in a serious condition.
Sources have confirmed that the explosion was the result of a special operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to law enforcement, Afanasyevskyi was involved in money laundering to support armed groups fighting against Ukraine. He is recognized as the "financial director" of the self-proclaimed leader of the "LPR," Leonid Pasichnyk. Afanasyevskyi is subject to personal sanctions imposed by the EU, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, and Japan.
