Russia attempts to cut off supply routes to Pokrovsk, deprive Ukrainian troops of resources
Invading Russian army is attempting to bypass and encircle Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region and cut off the roads leading to it in order to deprive the Ukrainian Armed Forces of resource supplies
Viktor Trehubov, the spokesperson of the Khortytsia operational-strategic troop grouping, shared the information on the United News telethon.
“The Russians are trying to bypass and encircle Pokrovsk from the south and southwest. They have somewhat stalled, and the intensity of their assault operations has decreased, but it remains high. The resistance they face has become too strong, and they are encountering objective difficulties. However, their ambition remains the same – to encircle the city from the west, cut off the roads leading to it, and deprive the city’s defenders of supplies or at least restrict them. They have thrown their main forces into this effort,” he said.
Trehubov emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are striking Russian infrastructure to slow down their advance. He also noted that Russia does not have a significant advantage in conducting combat operations near Pokrovsk.
“Right now, the Russians do not have a major advantage that would allow them to conduct active offensive operations effectively and without significant losses — without stalling or suffering three- to four-digit casualty figures per day. On both sides, this somewhat resembles a boxing match in the tenth round, where both boxers are exhausted, but the one who was more aggressive at the beginning is now more fatigued and starts to ‘hang’ on their opponent,” the spokesperson said.
- On February 2, the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that Ukrainian defenders had neutralized 15,000 Russian soldiers in the Pokrovsk sector, the hottest front line, during the first month of 2025.
