Romania’s Georgescu says his comments on territorial claims to Ukraine are “theoretical hypothesis”
Right-wing pro-Russian Romanian politician Călin Georgescu described his remarks on Ukraine’s territorial division as an "absolutely theoretical hypothesis"
This was reported by Digi24.
Earlier, Georgescu, who won the annulled first round of the Romanian presidential election, spoke of a "100% change in borders" and suggested that Bucharest could claim part of Ukraine’s territory.
Later, he clarified that his words were "theoretical hypotheses."
"Now the world is changing... Looking back at the time of the Second World War, we made many mistakes and didn't fully understand how to position ourselves. As a result, Great Romania became Little Romania. That is the reality... As I presented it, purely as a theoretical hypothesis, it’s not good to be caught off guard," Georgescu said.
At the same time, he dismissed politicians who criticized his statements as "short-sighted."
"We must learn from history," the far-right politician added.
- On January 30, Georgescu called Ukraine a "fictional state" and claimed its division among neighboring countries was inevitable. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned his remarks, calling them identical to Russian propaganda, "which signals complete dependence on Moscow’s masters."
- He also blamed Ukrainian politicians for the full-scale Russian invasion and labeled President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "semi-dictator."
