Stakes are rising: military expert on possible increase in nuclear danger
Military expert Petro Chernyk says that the deployment of the West's nuclear potential is possible only under US auspices, as it has an AGM-86 missile that can have a nuclear warhead
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"NATO is deploying additional nuclear forces. What are these additional nuclear forces? The UK has Vanguard class submarines with Trident missiles and France has Triomphant submarines with M45 missiles. And that's it. The deployment of nuclear capabilities is possible only under the auspices of the Americans, who have an excellent AGM-86 missile that can have a nuclear warhead. And the B-52 strategic bomber carries a sufficient number of these missiles. In addition, unlike the Russians, they also have classically free-falling B-6 bombs that can be brought to the continent, to Poland, for example. This is what we are talking about, not the Alliance," the military expert said.
According to him, it is about building up the nuclear component primarily in the United States, and it is being packaged in the Alliance.
"All the nuclear countries on the planet Earth, and these are 9 countries in this club, have put everything on alert. The stakes are rising. I really don't know where the transition point is. But the fact that the West has finally started playing this game too, because it takes two to tango, is very good. Even if it's a gradual, but still erosion of fears of Putin. If you have a nuclear baton and say you are ready to use it, then we also have it, and it is much better and much more powerful," said Chernyk.
- On June 17, NATO Secretary General Jens Stolterberg said that discussions are currently underway within the Alliance to put nuclear weapons on alert to deter China and Russia.
