Russia’s July 8 attack: new evidence of deliberate targeting of Okhmatdyt children's hospital
Ukraine's Security Service has found new evidence confirming that on July 8, Russia struck the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv with the Kh-101 cruise missile
This is reported by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) press center.
A fragment of the engine of the Kh-101 cruise missile was found at the site of the tragedy.
In addition, SBU investigators found:
- a fragment of the wing deployment mechanism of the Kh-101 missile;
- a fragment of the jamming unit of the Kh-101 missile;
- the middle part of the body of the Kh-101 cruise missile (pictured under the rubble);
- a tail section fairing and a fragment of the Kh-101 cruise missile's hydraulic unit;
- fragments of the Kh-101 cruise missile engine cowling with the inventory (inside) and serial numbers (outside), photos of which were officially published yesterday.
"The conclusions of the experts are unequivocal - it was a targeted attack by the Russians. This is evidenced not only by the missile debris found at the site of the strike, but also by the analysis of the flight path data, the nature of the damage caused, as well as a large number of video and photo materials," the special service added.
It is noted that the nature of the destruction confirms Russia's targeted missile strike - the hospital's two-story building was completely destroyed, and the surrounding buildings were heavily damaged - which is typical of a 400 kg Kh-101 warhead.
The SBU emphasizes that the destruction could not have been caused by the NASAMS system, whose warheads are about 20 times less powerful.
The fact that the children's hospital was Russia's direct target is also evidenced by the proportions, shape and size of the missile, which is captured in publicly available videos, fully consistent with the Kh-101 missile, and, conversely, not typical of SAMs, including NASAMS.
"Attempts by Russian propagandists to compare the missile in the video, which hits the hospital several hundred meters away, with the size of the building in the foreground is a cynical and senseless manipulation," the SBU emphasizes.
In addition, the missile's flight path fully corresponds to the characteristics of the Kh-101 (climb before attacking the target, and attack at an angle of approximately 60 degrees). In addition, the targeting of Okhmatdyt with an air-launched Kh-101 missile was recorded by objective radar monitoring.
According to SBU chief Vasyl Maliuk, the Security Service will do everything possible to ensure that Russia feels the maximum retribution for each of its war crimes.
"This retaliation will be both legal and moral. A terrorist state is not an abstract concept. There are specific names of the killers. And nothing will save them from justice," emphasized Maliuk.
- On July 8, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with missiles. It resulted in deaths, and the number of victims continues to grow. July 9 is declared a Day of Mourning in the capital. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, two floors of the Okhmatdyt hospital building were destroyed. Two adults (one of them a doctor) were killed, and 10 were injured. Several other buildings were damaged.
