In addition to Shaheds, Russia is increasingly launching unidentified drones, which often fall under the influence of Ukrainian electronic warfare and crash

Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, acting head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command, said this in a commentary to Ukrainska Pravda.

Commenting on the results of the anti-aircraft battle on the night of October 5, Ihnat said that 3 Shahed drones were shot down, and the remaining 10 UAVs were lost in the southern and northern regions. According to him, most likely, these could have been other types of drones, which, when detected, are identified by specialists on the ground.

The Russians are increasingly using cheap drones, in particular Gerbera, which are produced in three versions: electronic reconnaissance drone, 'kamikaze', and as a decoy.

At the same time, the Air Force emphasizes that any adversary air target is just a dot, a marker on air defense monitors, and that it is possible to find out exactly what was flying and what the payload was only from the wreckage on the ground.

“Location lost is a term that the Air Force has been using for some time in their morning reports. It refers to a target that was tracked by the Air Force's air surveillance units – whether it was an enemy strike or reconnaissance UAV – that disappears from radar. This usually indicates that the drone either ran out of fuel or crashed due to the impact of the electronic warfare systems employed by the defence forces,” the Air Force explained.

Ihnat emphasizes that Russia is using a large number of air attack aircraft to overload Ukrainian air defense and to conduct aerial reconnaissance.

The officer also emphasized an urgent request to citizens: “If you find suspicious objects that look like UAVs, please do not take any action on your own and promptly notify law enforcement, the State Emergency Service or military administrations.”

  • On the night of Saturday, October 5, Russian forces launched missiles and drones to attack Ukraine. The Ukrainian defenders managed to destroy three Shaheds over one of the regions.
