"The aggressor state of Russia has significantly intensified its campaign to recruit foreign mercenaries for the war against Ukraine: it is recruiting manpower in Central Africa, in particular in Rwanda, Burundi, Congo and Uganda," the statement said.
According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the Russians have created a special unit in the Russian Ministry of Defense to recruit African mercenaries.
Under the terms of the contract, on the basis of which mercenaries are lured to "work", a starting salary of $2,000 is offered, as well as a monthly allowance of $2,200, health insurance, and a Russian passport for the soldier and his family members.
- On May 12, it was reported that activists of the Atesh guerrilla movement had established that Russians were using African mercenaries to attack the Kharkiv region.
