Republicans call on Biden to send Ukraine cluster munitions
Four members of the United States Congress from the Republican Party called on US President Joe Biden to send cluster munitions to Ukraine
Reuters writes about this with reference to a letter of appeal from lawmakers to Joe Biden.
In a letter to the White House, 4 members of Congress from the Republican Party called on U.S. President Joe Biden to send cluster munitions to Ukraine, while pointing out the administration's concerns about doing so, as such actions could be seen by Russia as an escalation.
In the letter, Biden was criticized for "unwillingness to provide Ukraine with the type and quantity of long-range firepower and maneuverability needed to create a breakthrough against Russian forces."
The letter was signed by Jim Risch of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Roger Wicker of the Armed Services Committee, Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
The journalists reminded that Ukraine is asking for MK-20 cluster bombs to drop individual explosives from drones, as well as 155-mm artillery cluster shells. It is also noted that cluster munitions, which are banned by more than 120 countries, usually produce a large number of small bombs that can kill indiscriminately over a large area, endangering civilians.
