Putin signs decree on drafting 130,000 Russians: they are promised not to be sent to war
Putin has signed a decree on the autumn conscription of 130,000 Russians, which will begin on October 1: starting October 16, men will be sent to serve, while the military leadership promises not to send them to war against Ukraine
This is stated in a document that appeared on the website of the official publication of legal acts of the Russian Federation.
"From October 1 to December 31, 2023, to call up for military service citizens aged 18 to 27 who are not in the reserve and are subject to military service in accordance with the federal law "On Military Duty and Military Service" in the amount of 130,000 people," the document says.
The details of the start of the draft were reported by the propaganda outlet Interfax.Russia.
"The departure of conscripts from the assembly points is scheduled to begin on October 16. All conscripts will be sent for military service to the permanent deployment points of formations and military units of the armed forces and other military formations on the territory of the Russian Federation," Deputy Head of the Organizational and Mobilization Department of the Russian General Staff Vladimir Tsimlyansky said on Friday.
The Russian Federation noted that during the autumn conscription, recruits will not be sent to the so-called special military operation zone, although in reality the war is in the Ukrainian Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
One third of the new recruits are promised to be sent for a five-month training. The term of service is 12 months.
This does not apply to certain areas of the Far North. There, conscription will take place from November 1 to December 31.
147,000 people were drafted during the spring campaign.
