Preventing worst-case scenario is top priority - Ukraine’s Prime Minister Shmyhal
Ukrainian authorities held an emergency meeting in response to the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion. The main tasks are to ensure water supply, evacuate people and resettle them in safe areas
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, on June 6, Ukrainian authorities have convened a meeting of the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies to address the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. During the meeting, the 4 primary objectives were identified to mitigate the consequences of the incident
Among the main tasks set before the meeting participants was the organization of evacuation and accommodation of people in safe areas.
There are currently no casualties among the population due to high water, the official reports.
Shmyhal reminded that the first trains from Kherson would depart at 1:00 pm.
As for Zaporizhzhia NPP, the situation is under control.
"It is important to prevent the worst-case scenario from developing," Shmyhal outlined the second task.
The third task is to provide people with drinking water.
"The first decision made today at the government meeting is to allocate UAH 120 million to the State Agency of Water Resources for the sustainable supply of drinking water to the residents of Mykolaiv. The water will be supplied through the Ingulets riverbed in a special mode of operation. The project will allow us to achieve the required drinking water quality indicators and return its supply to the city," the Prime Minister wrote.
The fourth task involves assessing the environmental impacts caused by the explosion. The Ministry of Environment is responsible for compiling the necessary data related to this assessment, and it is expected to be prepared in the near future.
