Poland creates new infantry division, reinforced by tanks from South Korea and United States
The 1st Infantry Division of the Legions of the Polish Army will be formed in the east of Poland, equipped with tanks purchased from South Korea and the US
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced this on Polish Radio on Monday, January 9.
In particular, the command of the division will be located in Ciechanów in the Masovian Voivodeship. The division will be equipped with modern machinery, primarily K9 howitzers and K2 tanks purchased in South Korea, as well as American Abrams tanks.
"It is important to make the most of this modern weapon, which is already arriving in Poland.The first K2 tanks are already in service with the Polish Army. Abrams will be later this year, in 2023," Blaszczak added.
The creation of the new division is part of the plan to strengthen the Polish army, in particular by increasing the number of soldiers. It is expected that the number of the Polish Army will increase from 164,000 to 300,000 soldiers.
