Petr Pavel: Ukraine deserves to become NATO member after war
The newly elected president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, believes that Ukraine deserves to become a member of NATO after the end of the war since Ukrainian army is currently the most experienced in Europe
It was stated in an interview with the BBC.
"The Ukrainian army will probably be the most experienced army in Europe. Ukraine deserves to be part of the democratic countries community," Pavel said.
The Czech politician answered affirmatively to the journalist's clarifying question whether this applies to NATO membership.
"I think they really deserve it," he emphasized.
The elected president of the Czech Republic also noted that the end of the war depends on the political will of the Russian leadership.
"It only takes one decision by President Putin to withdraw his forces from Ukraine, and the war will end," Pavel said.
Petr Pavel will take the oath and become the president of the Czech Republic on March 9, 2023. He will replace Milos Zeman after a decade in the post.
