There is essentially nothing left of the 64th Brigade, which Putin assigned the title "Guards", but disbanding it would amount to tacit acknowledgment of Russia's responsibility for war crimes in Ukraine.

Crimes against peaceful Ukrainians in Bucha were committed by the Russian occupiers of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade from the Khabarovsk Krai. For atrocities against Ukrainians, Putin awarded it the rank of "Guards".
One of the occupiers, Oleksiy Astashov, published a post on social media with a photo showing the dead from the 64th Brigade. This post has been urgently removed. Moreover, only those who were awarded the Order of Courage got into the photo, ordinary soldiers do not appear there.
Before the war in Ukraine, the unit had one and a half thousand soldiers. After the "business trip" to Ukraine, there was little left of its fighting capacity, because it lost up to 600 occupiers. However, no one will disband it, because this will be an acknowledgment of the responsibility of the Russian occupiers for war crimes in Buch, notes Radio Liberty.
