Constructive relationship with Orban are impossible, head of Kyiv's Hungarian community says
The head of the Hungarian community in Kyiv region, Tibor Tompa, believes that there are no prospects for a constructive dialogue with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban
He expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
‘I would like to clarify that this is not so much Hungary, but the so-called Orbanistan, that is, the part of the country led by Orban. And there can be no constructive dialogue with Orban at all, meaning that there is no point in meeting with him and his henchmen at all, it is just a waste of time. Today, we need to act like the European Union does, we need to establish relations with those opposition leaders and the Hungarian intelligentsia, and the sooner the better,’ he said.
Tibor Tompa noted that the elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 2026, but it is necessary to cooperate with the Hungarian opposition now.
‘With such parties as Tisza, Momentum, and cooperate on the European level, through European institutions. This is the only way out, the way I see it today, because these political forces, especially Momentum, are very present in the Hungarian parliament, and it is necessary to cooperate with them in order to make Ukrainian-Hungarian relations normal. Moreover, these political forces support us in all our endeavors, including against Russian aggression,’ he said.
- On June 23, it was reported that, according to Tibor Tompa, Péter Magyar has a good chance of defeating Viktor Orban in the next elections in Hungary.
