Australia's former prime minister slams Trump-Putin relations
Malcolm Turnbull has called the former U.S. president's attitude toward the Russian leader “creepy”
According to him, Trump is “in awe” of Putin and perceives him “like the 12-year-old boy that goes to high school and meets the captain of the football team.”
Turnbull is a representative of the conservative Liberal Party, which works closely with the Republicans. However, he noted that the right-wing Republicans in the United States have a very pro-Russian stance, and this is a cause for concern.
Trump allegedly engaged in multiple phone calls with Putin after his presidency
This alignment and the broader implications of U.S. politics regarding Russia are explored in Bob Woodward's latest book, War. The journalist, known for his role in exposing the Watergate scandal, turns his attention to the behavior of both the Biden administration and Trump in the context of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, alongside the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Woodward’s insights shed light on Trump’s longstanding affinity with Putin, particularly in the early days of the pandemic. Despite America facing its own dire shortages, Trump controversially sent diagnostic tests to Russia, as Putin was deeply concerned about his health.
Trump’s connection to Putin didn’t end with his presidency. According to one of Trump’s former aides, the two maintained a steady line of communication, with at least seven phone calls taking place between them since the start of 2021.
