Landmark meeting between US Ambassador and SBU Chief: SBU is shifting to NATO standards
US Ambassador Bridget Brink meets with Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) Head to discuss key issues of Ukraine's security during the war and cooperation of special services in the fight against Russian aggression
"The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Given that it was about Ukrainian counterintelligence and cooperation with allies to counter enemy intelligence and cyberattacks, this is an important point. That is, the United States, as our most powerful ally, supports not only the direct work of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but also our counterintelligence and (most importantly) the SBU's actions in the enemy's deep and close rear.
This is a crucial point for Ukraine's future victory and position in the negotiations: that the SBU's actions are supported by the allies as appropriate, and will not be presented later in the negotiations as an "outrageous initiative of one of the parties to the conflict" and a reason to bargain for Russia. In fact, the ambassador once again emphasized the US statement that "when it comes to the use of military assistance provided to Ukraine, we have not seen any evidence of any egregious violations" (read. "destroy them even in the Kremlin, eliminate officers, blow up airplanes and bridges - we support it").
“There is also the aspect of Malyuk's initiative to bring the SBU to NATO standards. If the ambassador has officially demonstrated support, it means that the reform is really underway and it really meets NATO standards”
In addition, there is also the aspect of Malyuk's initiative to bring the SBU to NATO standards. If the ambassador has officially demonstrated support, it means that the reform is really underway and that it actually meets NATO standards (to the extent that the United States, as an ally and partner in the implementation of counterintelligence measures, has access and can judge the state of affairs).
Another important thing is that a meeting between an ambassador and the head of a special service is still quite unusual in diplomacy. But not when the intelligence services of both countries are working on the same individuals. In fact, this meeting is a demonstration of US approval of the wave of searches and large-scale investigations of Kolomoisky, Zhevago and other oligarchs. So to speak, the verdict "the US recognizes the legitimacy.” This verdict makes it impossible for any of the defendants in the investigations to appeal at the international level to "inadmissibility," "illegality," "harassment," or anything else.
So the situation is indeed atypical with a personal meeting between the head of the special service and the ambassador, but it is definitely in favor of Ukraine and the future victory.
