Indian Prime Minister cancels meeting with Putin over his nuclear blackmail of Ukraine
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has canceled his traditional annual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin over his nuclear threats against Ukraine
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to informed sources, Modi decided not to hold the annual summit with Putin after the Russian leader threatened to use nuclear weapons in the war against Ukraine.
The Russian-Indian summit has been held annually since the early 2000s. It was canceled once - during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In December 2021, Putin visited India for a meeting with Modi - it was his first trip outside the post-Soviet space after the start of the pandemic.
Bloomberg sources note that the cancellation of the summit does not mean a deterioration in relations between Delhi and Moscow, however, according to interlocutors of the news outlet, Modi believes that a meeting with the Russian president will not benefit him now.
Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed the cancellation of the summit.
“It won't happen this year,” he said briefly.
