Germany checks possibilities to increase arms supplies to Ukraine - Annalena Baerbock
The German government is going to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine. It aims to protect Ukraine from Russian air attacks following the example of the United States, which will transfer the Patriot missile defense system
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, RND publication reports.
"During the delivery of Patriot, we will also look again at what else we can transfer because we know that these air defense systems save lives," she said.
Baerbock reacted to the US promise of transferring Patriot as part of the arms assistance to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Washington. The Bundeswehr also has these defensive weapons and only recently assured Warsaw that three systems will be deployed in Poland. However, government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit recently made it clear that there are no more SAMs available for Ukraine.
However, Germany has already supplied other types of anti-aircraft weapons, including the Iris-T anti-aircraft systems. In addition, 30 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks were transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It is currently planned to supply three more Iris-T anti-aircraft systems and seven more Gepard anti-aircraft tanks.
As it is known, Germany has supported Ukraine with weapons and military equipment worth more than 2 billion euros.
