German government promises new supplies of weapons to Ukraine after French decision on tanks

Bayerische Rundfunk reports with reference to the statement of German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck at the economic conference in Oslo.

"We will not stop supplying weapons to Ukraine," he said.

Habeck made a relevant statement after France promised Ukraine reconnaissance tanks with heavy weapons. Then Germany also promised Kyiv further supplies of weapons.

Referring to France's decision and the US government's considerations regarding the supply of infantry fighting vehicles, Economy Minister Habeck added that Germany "will always adapt its own supplies to the needs of the battlefield."  Government sources in Berlin have said that they are in the process of coordinating further shipments of military aid to Ukraine with France and the United States.

• On January 4, France said it would transfer AMX-10RC light combat tanks and ACMAT Bastion armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine.  According to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he and Emmanuel Macron agreed on further cooperation on strengthening Ukraine's air defense system and other defense capabilities.
