German company receives order for two Skynex air defense systems for Ukraine - media
On December 9, the German Rheinmetall arms concern confirmed receiving an order for two Skynex anti-aircraft missile complexes
Handelsblatt reported this.
The German Rheinmetall arms concern confirmed the order, but did not name the recipient country. According to the publication from government circles, this is Ukraine. Delivery of the systems is planned for the beginning of 2024.
It is known that Skynex is a short-range anti-aircraft missile system. It uses 35mm Ahead programmable ammunition, which the Oerlikon Mk3 gun fires at a rate of 1000 rounds per minute for an effective range of 4 kilometers. The Skynex system uses 35mm ammunition to target drones or cruise missiles.
The gun module has a tracking radar with autonomous target search. The system can be controlled remotely. Unlike the Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns, which Ukraine has already received from Germany, Skynex is a new development.
Rheinmetall estimates the cost of two anti-aircraft missile systems at EUR 182 million. In addition, another EUR 12 million will be spent on trucks. According to Handelsblatt sources, these costs will be covered by the German government; currently they are studying under which budget article these funds could be used.
