For demining coastline: Britain will hand over 6 underwater drones to Ukraine
The UK will provide Ukraine with underwater drones for use demining the coastline and will also carry out training on their use.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain on August 27.
In total, Britain will provide Ukraine with six such drones. Three of them will be transferred directly from the warehouses of the ministry. Three more will be purchased from the manufacturer.
These devices are intended for cleaning water bodies from mines. They work most effectively in shallow coastal conditions and at a depth of up to 100 m. It is at this distance that they can detect, locate and identify mines using sensors.
In the coming months, dozens of military personnel will undergo a three-week course on the use of these drones. The training will be conducted by a group of specialists from the Royal Navy, together with the US Navy's 6th Fleet. The Royal Navy is already training Ukrainian fighters to operate Sandown Minehunter-class ships.
This decision was made by the British Ministry of Defense on the grounds that Russia has no right to use food products as a weapon against Ukraine and block ports.
"We cannot allow the success of Russia's cynical attempts to buy the world's food reserves," the British Defense Minister notes.
In this way, Britain expresses its support for Ukraine.
"This training is yet another powerful proof of Great Britain's continued commitment to Ukraine in its struggle to defend its country and repel Russian aggression," emphasizes the senior officer of the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Ben Key.
