Macron: Moldova can count on France's backing for EU membership
After the first round of the presidential election and referendum in Moldova, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his support for Moldova's efforts to join the EU

"Disinformation campaigns haven’t weakened Moldovans’ determination; their wish to join the European family has only grown stronger. Maia Sandu embodies this determination,” Macron stated.
He also stressed that Moldova can rely on France’s support in achieving its European goals.
- On October 20, 2024, Moldova held a national referendum on joining the EU and the presidential elections. According to preliminary results from the first round, the country's central election commission has named incumbent President Maia Sandu and former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo as the leading candidates.
